About a third of my makeup collection is from Rare Beauty, and for a very good reason. I’ve curated a guide for all you lovely bunnies who want some unsponsored opinions on some of their most popular products. Let’s dive in!
Soft Pinch Liquid Blush
I have a toxic relationship with liquid blushes because I love them for their pigmentation, but they are SO messy to work with (or maybe I’m just bad at it?) However, I fell in love with the doe tip applicator, which makes it easy to apply, and the blush melts into a beautiful rosy hue for everyday wear. Don’t worry if you can’t decide which to try first, because I promise you will fall in love with each one. And don’t be afraid to go for the colours you feel are out there! As you build your collection (this isn’t even an if, because you definitely WILL somehow end up with a small army of these), try to go for different tones so that you can mix and play around.
Warm Wishes Effortless Bronzer Sticks
Glides like butter, glows like… toast? Ok, maybe I need to work on my similes. As the name implies, it is definitely warmer, so I’d avoid using any more bronzing products unless you want to look like an orange. However, if you’re looking for something that will do the work of both a bronzer and a contour, Warm Wishes is definitely your jam 🍓
Blot & Glow Touch-Up Kit
This small but mighty compact will help keep the sweat in check and leave you wanting more with her soft pearly glow. She is my go-to for all occasions: school, work, clubbing, and content shooting. The slim design also boasts a generously large mirror for easy touch-ups. Did I mention the powder puff and blotting sheets are refillable? It probably won’t matter since I’ve had mine for about two years and have yet to replace either one.
Always an Optimist Soft Radiance Setting Powder
This little wonder delivers a natural, breathable finish and blurs seamlessly to lock in liquids. My favourite part is the container lock, which helps dispense the perfect amount of powder and keeps messy spills at bay! It is a light coverage powder, so unless you’re God’s favourite, you may have to touch up your t-zone with something stronger.
Liquid Touch Brightening Concealer
If you’ve been looking for something reliable for everyday wear, this concealer is the one (and it’s only $25!) I use my regular shade to conceal blemishes and the under-eye area, and one that’s two shades lighter for highlighting my cheekbones. And best of all, this creamy formula blends easily in a wide range of 48 shades.
Weightless Eyeshadow Primer
This little cutie comes in a half-moon shaped vial and dries into a light peach base to help lock in and bring out eyeshadow pigments. The texture is remarkably silky and lightweight, making it easier for those like me with heavier lash extensions to remove.
Positive Light Tinted Moisturizer
Though I’ve been raving about Rare so far, this tinted moisturizer is, unfortunately, the first on my hit list. It seems way too small to justify a nearly $40 bottle, even with SPF. I also found shade matching difficult, which is surprising since an extra-light coverage should make it more forgivable. I tried the neutral and warm olive undertones in my shade and found them noticeably orange. Also, I got an allergic reaction to it (which included dry, scaly, and burning skin). I was SO excited for this launch, but it sadly went downhill with every wear.
Pore Diffusing Primer
This rose-coloured pump delivers every last drop without having to scoop out the remains (looking at you, Fenty). It also boasts nourishing ingredients like hyaluronic acid, green tea extract, and vitamin e. While I love a good floral scent, this primer comes off more like a juicy fruit baby powder. Also, make sure it works with your foundation before purchasing. Otherwise, be prepared for some weird transfer and pilling. I used it with my Dior face and body foundation and will NOT be making that mistake again. It did seem to work fine with my Rare concealers, though.
Stay Vulnerable Melting Cream Blush
This blush is so cute, but also just goes to show that aesthetics aren’t everything. For starters, it gives off a weak wash of colour, which I would usually end up ditching for Soft Pinch. While it’s super easy to carry around, the solid cream product often pops off from its base and smears all over the mirror. Yuck.
Perfect Strokes Matte Liquid Liner
This liner is almost a little too overpowered fresh out of the package. I found the nib too large and stiff to work with, and it was difficult to get a precise, sharp wing without ink bursting out at odd times. But it’s a good price point for the colour payoff, and it won’t budge. I’ve had a few breakdowns with it, but it gets easier to use with some time and q-tips. It’s definitely more of an intermediate-advanced level eyeliner. I believe it has potential with some adjustments and if they release it in other colours.
